Jebne msakhanne ..
I never know what to eat on Sundays, everyone usually goes out for lunch but i prefer resting home. I decided to make cheese sandwiches (Bulghari & kachkawan) using lebanese bread ( falafel size)and heat them using the SEB ( picture below)
Those sandwiches remind me of the war back in 1989-90, when the whole family was stuck in Adonis and my aunts and grandma used to make us those sandwiches in the morning or at night and we’d drink tea with them , we were like 12 kids in that appartment and we would wait in turn to get those sandwiches. That was one ‘enjoyable’ memory from the war.
Now this is all fun and yummy, but the worst part is the cleaning, i forgot one of the sandwiches on the SEB while watching the Federer-Gonzalez Australian open final and the result was an extra half an hour of cleaning.
Well anyways, sandwiches were good and i am full now

You are one funny person
Now I feel like cheese,do you have any leftovers? I promise I could help with the cleaning

Naa Nancy,
I ate everything but since you offered to clean, i will keep you in mind the next time i do those sandwiches.

Ah, during 1989-1990 you guys had electricity eh? My grandfather used to grill our sandwiches. He used to get those metal things you usually put the kabab in and line up our sandwiches and then grill them on the gas. Its delicious! Oh and cleanear than SEB.

why did it take you so long to clean, the cheese usually peels right off that SEB when it cools… but i use halloum cheese, not sure what kachkawn is.

Kashkawan is a cheese I like. It’s sweeter than halloum I think. Am not a fan of halloum so can’t remember what it tastes like really. But IZzi, you do raise a good point, usually its not too difficult to peel off the food from SEB. Amateurs!
January 28th, 2007 | #
yup and the peeled off burnt cheese tastes pretty good too

tab enough the both of you! sha7eitooni w ana i am at work…
January 28th, 2007 | #
Well the cheese got stuck in spots where it wasnt easy to remove them ( The Kashkawan not the Bulghari), it melt and doesnt burn like the white cheese..

In California we call this a quesadilla. We make it with flour tortillas which are very flat and very bland. You can also make it with corn tortillas which are tastier. We make it exactly the same way although I don’t have that electric press thing you’ve got. I just cook it on the stove top in a cast-iron griddle (an American item) and flip the quesadilla to get it brown on both sides.
Now when I have a craving for mana’eesh, I use a flour tortilla, grill it and smear on za’atar. Occasionally I make a quesadilla with white cheese and za’atar to give me a hint of the famous Beirut “nous ‘w nous.” (California’s local “monterey Jack” cheese is a good option)
Cross-cultural grilled cheese! Lovely.
Oh yes, the original “American” sandwich is a grilled cheese on white bread slices.

When I scroll down to the bottom of this post I see the last photograph followed by the title of the previous post. Was that intentional?
January 28th, 2007 | #
Lol Solomon2, We posted at the same time and i did point that out to Ram and laughed about it.
It could be intentional, cause she cant make those sandwiches like i do
January 28th, 2007 | #
Total coincidental

It looked very appetizing until I got down to that point! I might try this myself. I know I can get za’atar. Is Kashkawan is the same as Kashkaval?
January 29th, 2007 | #
Yes solomon it is
January 29th, 2007 | #
