Zahi el Boustani R.I.P

October 26, 2006 in the early morning

Zahi el Boustani died few days ago, he was in his early 60s. He was fighting with cancer for years now before he got really sick almost two weeks ago and passed away.

For those who dont know, Zahi el Boustani was head of the general surety back in the mid 80s, and was Bashir Gemayel’s close friend.

Zahi was one of the four government officials that supported Bashir gemayel’s ascendancy to presidency and Bashir thanked him first after the elections were done.

The man lost his daughter during an unfortunate accident few years ago in the Lycee school when the wall of the playground fell.

The man had so many secrets, yet never revealed any and refused to give any testimony.

You can read an overview on Zahi’s life in this article posted by Elie El Hajj.

Beirut Here I Come

Leaving to Beirut in a few hours.  Don’t expect much posts from me until Friday.

Landing in London

in the early evening

I heard this song playing on the radio today, its been a while i havent heard it. Its a very nice song and i love three doors down, the singer’s voice is very different from all others.

 Enjoy

I woke up today in London
As the plane was touching down
All I could think about was Monday
Maybe I’d be back around
If this keeps me away much longer
I don’t know what I will do
You’ve got to understand it’s a hard life,
that I’m going through

And when the night falls in around me
I don’t think I’ll make it through
Ill use your light to guide the way
Cuz all I think about is you

L A is getting kind of crazy
New York’s getting kind of cold
I keep my head from getting lazy
I just can’t wait to get back home

And all these days I spend away
Ill make up for this I swear
I need your love to hold me up
When it’s all too much to bear

And when the night falls in around me
I don’t think I’ll make it through
Ill use your light to guide the way
Cuz all I think about is you

And all these days I spend away
Ill make up for this I swear
I need your love to hold me up
When it’s all too much to bear

And when the night falls in around me
I don’t think I’ll make it through
Use your light to guide the way

Cuz all I think about is you

I always enjoy the “halawi bi jeben” and kellaj during Ramadan.

Even though Halawi bi jeben is available all year long, i only enjoy eating it during Ramadan.

The comeback of assasinations ?

at around evening time

Few weeks ago, Jumblatt was talking about the threats Sanioura is receiving and the poisonous situation the country is in. Added to that, he pointed to the weapons still coming in numbers through the seaport and the Syrian borders.

In the past 2 weeks, 3 explosions occured in Beirut which were meant to send a clear message to the government than cause casualties. Last night, a journalist in Al Mustaqbal newspapers, Ahmad el Ayyoubi received a clear threat when he found a box with 2 grenades and a message inside of it.

Ramadan will be over in few days and all the Pro-Syrian and Terrorist groups added to Hezbollah have been preparing themselves for a comeback on the Lebanese scene. The 1559 report presented yesterday asked the Lebanese government for a schedule for Hezbollah’s disarment.

We have the whole international community supporting us on all sides and all Lebanon’s ennemies regrouped to cause trouble by either committing new murders or by harrassing the UNIFIL Troops.

I dont mean to be pessimistic but i believe Lebanese are living an illusion that the war is over, while in my opinion the war just started and it will be a more destructive and vicious war than the previous one if we dont manage to overcome it.

Let us hope that we pass this ugly period and finish with all those local and foreign armed groups threatening our sovereignty and Lebanon’s future

Al Khiam

in the early evening

Last night, I was talking with a friend who just returned from Lebanon.  While she was there she visited the South.  She told me she will show me pictures of her trip but what affected her the most was that nothing remains standing in Khiam including the Khiam prison.  When I got home, I googled this news, to find out it was true… I somehow missed this news … Al Khiam prison was hit on July 20th.  It’s completely destroyed.

For those of you who do not know, in the village of Khiam, on the tallest hill, the French had built barracks, well-fortified barraks, which the Lebanese Army took over in 1943 following Lebanon’s Independance. During Israel’s occupation, the Israelis converted it into a detention center … when Israel left Khiam almost 6 years ago, the people went into it to free the prisoners only to find how horrifying the conditions this prison maintained.  Prisoners were tortured in the worst ways (not that i know of a good torturing way), several prisoners were killed, beaten, etc.  The prison was turned into a museum run by Hezbollah for everyone to see the truth.

This piece of history, this landmark … was destroyed.  I am sure that the prisoners who survived that prison will never forget what it held.
