50 000 were at Hezbollah’s rally only !!

September 28, 2006 in the early afternoon

This study might not be that reliable, but i thought i share it with you

because it does give a convincing explanation. Let me just remind you that Al Manar claimed more than 1.5 million were down there.

Study was done by CEDRE ( Centre D’Etude, de Developpmenet et de Recherche) and distributed by Loubnanouna group.

1- The event was done near the Hadath ‘Mecanique’ building.

2- The number of chairs used is almost equal to 25 000 chairs.

3- The approximate number of people seated is equal to 25 000.

4- The total Area used for event is equal to 85430m2, calculated using the software Mapinfo. By substracting the area used for the chairs, we will have 16 668 m2 left.

5- A person holding a flag and standing still needs at least 1m2, therefore we have at max 17 000 people standing.

6- If we add those to the people seated and the ones standing, and with a 20% margin error, we ll obtain almsot 50 000 which represents the number of people who attended the event.

I was there, in the women’s section, and I can assure you, it was (women alone), way more than 50,000. Don’t know where they get thier statistics from. I was at the Geaggea rally as well. Curious to know as to what that source says on that one. Now if anyone can help me find my wallet I lost there, I’d be happy.

Sietske, I heard about your wallet. Sorry about that.
Personally, I think they were over 50 000 people and personally I think it doesn’t really matter how many people were at the rally

Not only would naturalizing Palestinians as Lebanese citizens erode Hezbollahs strength, but allowing Palestinians to naturalize would bring economic strength to Lebanon. This would also harm Hezboolah because a stable Lebanon would not want to initiate foreign adventures against Israel (or Bangladesh-see above)

Shin Bet chief accuses Egypt of closing its eyes to Palestinian arms smuggling to Gaza. But DEBKAfile reports its volume is dwarfed by Hizballah’s illegal imports

    September 28, 2006, 12:38 AM (GMT+02:00)

Diskin informed the cabinet Wednesday, Sept 27, that since Israel pulled out of the Gaza Strip, 19 tons of explosives have passed through Sinai to the Gaza Strip. “The Egyptians know who the smugglers are – we gave them intelligence – but they are doing nothing,” he said.

DEBKAfile’s military sources disclose that while Egypt helps the Palestinians move the tools of war into Gaza, the Syrians have established large arms dumps for the fresh war materiel incoming from Iran and Syria itself on the Syrian side of the Lebanese border. It can be moved over to any part of Lebanon in an instant. This device enables Damascus to keep Hizballah re-supplied while pretending to uphold the arms embargo ordered in Security Council resolution 1701.

Our sources reveal 25 of these large weapons stores have been located in Syrian army camps, air bases and security installations close to the Lebanese border. They contain miscellaneous missiles, including the latest models of surface-to-air and anti-tank rockets, all sorted and marked by type of weapon and the Hizballah units for which they are destined.

Drawing on the lessons of the Lebanon war, Iranian Revolutionary Guards supply and engineering corps have dropped the use of arms trucks which drew Israeli air attacks and have attached expert “smuggling squads” to each Hizballah unit.

Syria is also topping up Hizballah’s war losses of ammunition and shells as well s mortars, machine guns, grenades, anti-tank missiles, explosives and automatic rifles.

The weapons supply situation for the Palestinians in the south and Hizballah in north means that both are in equipped with enough war materiel to open simultaneous fronts against Israel from both ends of the country.

Senior Israeli officers say that the government in Jerusalem and the military

high command have been sitting on their hands since the August 14 ceasefire instead of dealing with the dual war threat. The Shin Bet director is not alone in sounding a warning note; a past Navy commander and Shin Bet chief, the Labor MK Ami Ayalon, bluntly contradicted his own party leader, defense minister Amir Peretz, at a briefing to the Knesset foreign affairs and security committee Tuesday, Sept 26. He reported according from his naval intelligence sources that UNIFIL’s naval control of Lebanon’s sea lanes is totally ineffective and Hizballah’s weapons shipments continue to be dropped ashore.

    Hi Sita,
how do you know there are more than 50,000? Well, in journalism school, we were taught (I am serious) a technique that helps you estimate crowds for the very purpose that when you are covering a demonstration, you’ve to got your numbers right. It sort of goes like this. You count the people in an area, say ten by ten meters. Then you figure out how many ten by ten meters there are in the entire space and you sort of multiply. A very rough technique, I admit, but then again, you always get very rough estimates. They always say “600,000 people attended a rally”, not “569,935 people”. So that’s how you know. The problem with the Hezbollah rally was that. although the field was pretty square and easily counted, there were a massive number of people out on the side streets as well. You cannot really count those with any great accuracy. But I agree with Rampurple. It doesn’t really matter how many people attend.

The main issue in this study and in counting the people in general is chairs… alooot of chairs and many seated persons.. now dunno what percentage of space the chairs took up…

Can you please elaborate Elvis ?

    September 29th, 2006 | #

  13. sonia says

Yes, I would also like elaboration on naturalisation of Palestinians theme.

    September 29th, 2006 | #

  14. Elvis Scudbubble says

The Palestinians are a highly intelligent group of people with a strong work ethic. They also have overseas connections that could bring investment into Lebanon. Currently, Lebanon does not allow Palestinians to participate in a number of professions. Naturalizing Palestinians would have the following effects. As newly naturalized Lebanese, they would work for the benefit of Lebanon and less likely to drag Lebanon into foreign adventures. They would be less susceptible to the cause of radical Islam. Indeed, al Qaida operatives are recruiting in Lebanese refugee camps. Second, the Palestinians could do for the Lebanese economy what the Russian immigration has done for the Israeli economy-initial pain on absorption, but now, increased high tech and entrepreneurship

    September 29th, 2006 | #

  15. sonia says

Yes, Elvis. I also believe that the Palestinians are hardworking and intelligent. Except for their political decisions.
Palestinians need and deserve economic aid from countries like Saudi Arabia. And why not?

    September 30th, 2006 | #

  16. N10452 says

    Elvis,
Allow me to disagree, since the Palestinians that you are talking about were naturalized years ago, or are living abroad, while those in camps will only replace Syrian workers or Egyptians.
Added to that, those camps are armed to the teeth and host several terrorist groups and provide weapons and explosives.
They managed to establish an underground link as well with Syrians on the borders ( Jibha Cha3biyya) and keep on harrassing the Lebanese army.

There are Palestinian guerillas in Lebanon, not Palestinian citizens respecting our sovereignty.

But still i believe that they should be given some rights and a working passport in Lebanon, since i am against naturalizing them, but on a condition that they disarm totally and sign a list of points that will reassure our government and people that they will not try anything funny.

Palestinians are ennemies as much as Syrians and Israelies are. They have damaged our country and caused us a 15 years war and 25 years Syrian invasion and the immigration of our youth, not to mention thousands of martyrs. You cannot just naturalize them and put the past behind specially with Hamas now governing and its links to Hezbollah.

    September 30th, 2006 | #

  17. Elvis P Scudbubble says

Let them replace Syrians or Egyptians. Gainful employment might make them less likely to arm and disrupt Lebanon. The Syrians will never respect Lebanese sovereignty anyhow. Look at Sheba farms. If Syria officially assigned the Sheba Farms to Lebanon, Israel would be under pressure to return them. But this would imply Syrian recognition of Lebanon, which the assads have as much a problem with as Saddam had with Kuwait
