On April 18th 1996, the Qana Massacre. Over 100 killed and over 300 injured by Israelis (women, children, and elderly included)
On July 30th 2006, At least 56 people were killed. They include 34 children. Bodies are still being removed as I type this!

Hezbollah fires rockets from a civilian building and then when Israel retaliates, we see a wonderful post from Ram condemning Israel. I guess Israel should just accept those rockets and not fight back.

Qana is a mistake israel made; It is a mistake of our Military Intelligence that neglected to check whether civilians are there. This isn’t the first time my army screws up, and unfortunately, it’s not the last time. I do think that it could have been done in a better manner, however, Israel did shoot towards where Rockets were fired against it, and the Hizbullah did hold the people in that building hostage, as they knew israel is bombing there.

On April 18th 1996 Hexb’allh launched missiles next to the UN camp. Fijian Unifil soldier asked the terrorists to move away and was murdered by them just before the Israeli response.
Hezb’aalh has been quite succesfuls murdering women and children at Qana. Same method too. This time they didnt get to kill any UNFIL soldiers though.

I am heartbroken!, and I am angry, I’m not blaming this side or the other because I am against both. Even if ‘fliers’ were dropped, how could they have left (may their souls rest in peace)? All infrastructure was destroyed in the preliminary stages of the attacks on Lebanon. It would have been too risky and dangerous to leave! Did’nt you read how long it took the Red Cross to get in? Not to mention the danger of Red Cross vehicles being IDF targets as well!

Haifa was my father’s homeland before 1948, 10 years after that year my grandfather went with his sons to visit their home in Haifa, an old Jewish woman was sitting in the front yard on a chair that used to be part of my father’s family furniture, and when she knew who they were she told them, come take your house back if you can!

Before I say anything else, I will say this. The loss of life at Qana leaves me heartsick, as has the horrendous loss of life throught Lebanon and - to a lesser but no less horrific extent - Israel. I have not been able to sleep comfortably for a week and a half, though I’m safe in NY and no nobody in the war zone; I can only imagine what it is like for you - again, Lebanese and Israeli - who are there, or have family who are. To all of you, even those of you drowning in your hatred of me, my family and the state I support, stay safe.
That said, an Israeli missile hit that building, but Hezbollah killed the people inside. Is there any way that an Israeli pilot can know, from thousands of feet in the air, that the house he is targeting - because it was used by Hezbollah as a launch platform or hiding place - has civillians inside? Of course not. A single reckless attack on a car fleeing a city on a guess that it may contain Hezbollah fighters, with only one civillian dead, is immoral and criminal and tragic and wrong. A missile strike on a building known to be used by Hezbollah that kills 60 civillians is also tragic - but it is not immoral or criminal or wrong, particularly if the pilot did not know there were civillians inside. And I ask you again - and I don’t expect any of you to answer rationally now, but when the passion and the pain fade, think about it - how could the pilot have known? He couldn’t have.
Now contrast that with Hezbollah’s fighters. When they used that building, is there any way they could *not* have known of the civillians inside? Of course they knew - they were ther, on the ground with them. They knew there were civillians inside, they knew that their use of the building was putting a bulls eye on it for the IAF.
And they did not care.
I’ll say it again - an Israeli missile hit that building, but Hezbollah killed the people inside.

Israel did give up the land in various years but it was land the took unlawfully. This was not a free gift of land they lawfully owned. They seized this land.
It would be like Nazi Germany giving back Moscow in WWII. It was not theirs to give in the first place.

Aside from embracing peace, there is no solution to the situation. Any decison will infuriate one side or the other forever.
What if the US decided to grant Israel land in the states, helped them immigrate and turned Palastine over the the Palastinians? The move could be enforced and monitored by the UN. The US has plenty of land and much of the western states are arid and similiar to the mideast. Copies of the Dome of the Rock, the wall of the Temple and such could be replicated much like Las Vegas. Sure, Israel would fight it, but peace would finally come to the region.

Sorry to dissapoint you guys, but the formation of the state of Israel is no different than any other country. No nation has risen without the call to arms and expulsion of others. The Palestinians have no more “right” to the land than the Israelis.
Israel holds the land because it can protect its border from its enemies, and that’s all. The only difference between Israel and other countries is the fact that the people they expelled are willing to fight it and enjoy a vast (mostly unquestioned) support from the world muslims.
This is a realistic approach: peace can only be acchieved once a side is wiped out completely or both sides can let bygones be bygones. As in 1948 about 700,000 Arabs left or were expelled from this patch of land, about 850,000 jews were expelled from Arab countries. Those refugees came to Israel and also lived in refugee camps after their belongings were taken illegally by the Arabs.
There you can see another difference, as the refugee problem in Israel was solved in 4 years, the Palestinians do absolutely nothing to solve their refugee problem for 60 years.
You say the Israelis are foreigners of the land, but they have nowhere else to go. Israel IS their homeland whether you like it or not. I hope the ones seeking Israel’s destruction would face reality soon, as the Israelis will fight fiercly to protect the homeland they built for themselves.
Hate will get us nowhere. War mongering will not solve any problems. The UN won’t solve our problems. Only an open dialouge between Israel and the Arabs can save us all from prolonged misery and suffering.

Israel is a tiny nation, roughly half the size of Lake Michigan. Its population is roughly half the size of the New York metropolitan area. Despite being a Jewish state, more than twenty percent of its residents are Arab and most Jews in Israel describe themselves as secular rather than religious.
Yet if one were to read world press accounts or daily condemnations from the United Nations or the recent decision of the ICJ criticizing the construction of the fence, you might conclude that Israel is a world power intent on destabilizing Middle East affairs.
Why, it might well be postulated, does the world resent this speck of land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean?
Although my comments are speculative, I suspect they could be borne out empirically if historical accounts were fair and objective.
Israel is a thorn in the side of the Arab world because it is a remarkable technological phantasmagoria. Almost every Israeli is engaged in a software scheme. The Jews in this arid nation have made the deserts bloom; they have converted brain power into technical marvels and consequent wealth.
By contrast every nearby Arab nation is dysfunctional. Their governments are tyrannical; the people are poor and uneducated and local officials have been unwilling to convert oil revenue into social benefits.
Resentment is the natural result of this contrast. Afterall, Israel has all of the geographic disadvantages of its neighbors and it doesn’t have any oil fields. Yet it prospers, while others falter.
Second, it should be hastily noted that Israel is a proxy for anti-American sentiment. The misguided belief that the U.S. is an imperial power eager to put its stamp on the Middle East is demonstrated by the aid and support given to Israel. Rarely, is it noted by U.S. detractors that American assistance to Egypt is equal to aid for Israel. Moreover, American involvement in Iraq was neither precipitated by Israel (Does the tail wag the dog?) nor has this engagement influenced Israel’s relations with her neighbors in any new directions.
Third, the Palestinian question has awakened emotions on the European left and in many Arab states. Yet remarkably the critique of Israel is generally quite banal. Arafat, as putative Palestinian leader, was granted 97 percent of the West Bank and some control over holy sites in the negotiation at Wye Plantation. Yet he turned down these generous Israeli terms.
In fact, there aren’t any terms that serve the ambitions of Arabs eager to destroy the state of Israel, unless, of course, national suicide is a reasonable negotiating point.
Fourth, the fence has the metaphorical power of the Berlin Wall. It is used for propaganda purposes to argue that Israel is intent on “taking Arab land” and isolating itself from Palestinians.
What should be noted is that the Berlin Wall was created to keep East Germans bound to the chains of communism, while the Israeli fence is designed to prevent suicide bombers from continuing wreaking bloodshed among Israelis.
Intifada II has resulted in at least a thousand dead Israeli citizens since 2000 and others maimed as well. It is encumbent on any leader of any nation to offer his people a modicum of security against those bent on bloodshed. If the fence reduces threats and increases security, Prime Minister Sharon should embrace it. His duty to protect his own people transcends any obligation imposed on him from multilateral organizations.
Fifth, the Palestinians have made their case to the international court of public opinion more effectively than the Israeli government. They have positioned themselves as underdogs against a mighty military force from tiny Israel. They have persuaded many of their supporters that the land Israel acquired after the ‘67 war is “occupied” rather than “disputed” territory. Hence, their sanguinic tactics are ignored by opinion markers normally opposed to terrorist activity.
Sixth, the Palestinians manage their news media. There isn’t an opposition voice in the Palestinian territory and if an unpredictable comment is made, it is often squelched with force. Reporters Without Borders has reported numerous occasions where journalists were beaten when they challenged Hamas or Hezbollah positions in print.
Israel, as an open and free society, entertains every point of view, including anti Israel arguments. As a consequence, criticism of Israel is widespread and criticism of Palestinian activity muted.
Seventh, the United Nations is now systematically organized to criticize the United States and Israel. It is instructive that in a statement emanating from the Secretariat’s office condemning the construction of the fence, not a word was mentioned about suicide bombers who precipitated the construction.
As I see there is very little that can be done at the moment to change international opinion. Israel has an obligation to its own people to remain resolute against usually unfair and hateful allegations. For the Middle East this is the Dark Ages. But if the Arab world wishes to enter the 21st century – a far from clear conclusion – it will have to adopt and perhaps emulate much of Israeli life. On that slim reed, hope shall continue to exist.

i am an israeli and i can tell you that the story about “children soldiars” in israel is a complete b.s .
unlike all arabs countreys israel is a free countrey and lately even joining the army isnt a obligation.
i know for sure that there arent any people under age 18 in the israeli army. while i’m sure there are children in lebanon who are forced to help the hizballah because they are forced to. if there is anything wrong in israel which happends alot, it get to the press, where in arab countries someone who tries to say anything against his leaders words is killed.
the t.v in the arab countries shows only what their leaders wants them to see, and the arab community hears only what their leaders wants them to hear, and here in israel when i read the paper or watch the t.v i hear and see about both the worng things israel have done and the wrong things the hizballah have done.
