Ram12

October 31, 2005 in the late evening

I started liking Apple Computers a few years ago because… well… they look sexy. The ibooks and powerbooks have always looked like nice fashionable accessories. Not only to they look so good that you want to carry them wherever you go, but they also look really stylish on a desk as part of your office or bedroom décor.

Yet, these were never enough reasons for me to buy one. I have always been a standard IBM Microsoft Windows type of person. All the softwares I ever used were on Windows and I simply got adapted to using them. I always used excuses that there were certain softwares that I use on a daily basis that are not available on Macs or that some of Macs softwares are not compatible with what most people use…. Windows stuff. Well, in short, I was worried about paying for something I might not know how to use!

During the 2 or 3 years I got more and more exposed to Macs. At the studio I used to work for, I taught myself how to use Pro Tools for audio recording and editing, I also taught myself how to use Final Cut Express. I started to understand Macs a bit more. Most of my family use Macs also I now work at an advertising agency, I am exposed to the designers Macs. As a result, I longer was scared of the unknown… the Mac.

I excitedly ordered and received a 12 inch Powerbook. Before I even get started on the actual Powerbook I have to say that I was extremely impressed with the packaging. The box is gorgeous… I don’t think I could bring myself to throw it away. I love how they even organized everything inside. Anyways, back to the matter of hand, I finally got a Mac and now I had to get adjusted to using it. It’s not as difficult as you would think; actually it is really simple, so simple it confuses me at times. It is so user friendly. I have to admit though that during the first day I was only fooling around with the silly, yet amusing stuff, like the speech recognition. Yes, I was amused that my Mac can tell me “knock knock” jokes!

Bottom line is that it did not take me so long to get adjusted to Macs… well until just now… every time I stick a CD in, it spits it right out! What’s up with that? Well, apparently the powerbook I received has a defect! My luck! It won’t read my Cds or Dvds but Mark said we can solve this issue. I am sure I will mention Ram12 (that’s what it’s called since everything I do own is called rampurple or kermie) … throughout this blog since it is what I use as a personal computer.

Hi there! It’s everyone’s favorite anonymous voice from the beyond! :) Yes, the powerbook is a great machine. I got mine from the fabulous Regent Street Apple store in London (the mother ship) and I still have not thrown away the box it came in (it’s under my bed). Mine had a defect too when I got it. I was using it for a week on my lap then when I finally got a desk I realized it was a bit tilted…basically when I’d type it would tip back and forth (like when the legs of a table are uneven). I took it back to the store and they replaced it on the spot. Enjoy your new powerbook and welcome to the wonderful world of Mac! :)

Hehehehe yaaay! I got a 12inch powerbook as well over the summer :P As you might have read about it :P Now we can be Powerbook buddies as well :P It’s awesome isn’t it? :p So very simple but one thing has kept me from fully achieving a cross over and that is the MSN Messenger thingy since I am used to the endless plugins that I have added on mine :r As well as many other features of certain IMs
